Today we drove up the Pikes Peak highway and hung out all morning at the finish to the Pikes Peak Ascent. It was a great way to relax, watch some amazing runners and get pysched up for our big race the next day. This year the ascent was nominated as the 7th annual World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Challenge. It is basically considered the world mountain running championship. That meant the field was going be very deep with tons of great runners from all over the world. Each country nominates a team that consists of 3-4 runners.
The spectators at the finish looking out for the 1st runner.
Melissa looking out at the course with the Cirque in the distance.
(above) The top guy- Glenn Randall from Mesa, CO. His debut on Pikes Peak which is amazing for such a deep field. And apparently, he blew the field away right from the start putting a big gap between him and the chase pack before they even got on Barr Trail. He also won the Mt Evans Ascent earlier this year.
Ryan Hafer- local runner, went to Coronado High School. Got 4th overal!
One of two Aussie runners. 26th place!
Top female from USA- Brandy Erholtz in a finish time of 2:41:38. She is amazing!
Second female- Kim Dobson. Closest female race ever finishing 13 seconds behind Brandy. That was fun to watch.
Second Aussie runner 70th overall male.
Really fun to watch all these guys.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing out of the sun and altitude, trying not to get too anxious about tomorrow!
